So several people have asked me what I’ll do with this blog now that I’m back. I honestly doubt that I’ll update it much, since Blair’s life in the USA isn’t as exciting as my Peace Corps life. I did want to give a wrap-up of my post Peace Corps travels, though.
I traveled for about 5 weeks with a Peace Corps friend, Laura, starting in Nicaragua and ending in Panama. In Nicaragua, we spent time in Esteli, Leon, Granada, Isla de Ometepe, and San Juan del Sur. I particularly enjoyed our time in Granada and San Juan del Sur. In Costa Rica we visited Liberia, Monteverde, and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. Monteverde is a must-see for nature lovers, and the Caribbean sunset and views in Puerto Viejo are quite breathtaking, although the town itself is underdeveloped and you better prepare yourself for lots of reggae. Panama was INCREDIBLE. We spent almost a week in Bocas del Toro, then several days in Panama City (including the canal zone) and then San Blas Islands. I would be happy to give anyone tips and ideas for a trip to these countries.
I flew back to the USA from Panama City on October 5th, so today it’s been a full month that I’ve been back. I’m still processing it. It’s great to be back with family and friends, but I also feel lost in a place that once felt so familiar and comfortable. I also know that running back to live in Camasca is not what I need at this moment either. I’m looking for jobs in the USA on the east coast and hoping for something early 2012. I’m particularly interested in emergency planning and disaster relief work, and also community and international development projects, especially with Spanish-speaking populations. Let me know if you have any contacts
My two plus years with the Peace Corps was amazing, intense, difficult, challenging, but overall, worthwhile. I’d be happy to discuss my experience with anyone interested in the Peace Corps.
